I wanted to get everyone updated with more great news from Orrin! He's currently working on a new website. Sorry, it's a work in progress, so I don't have the info on that yet. He's been busy writing in FL, and when he's done, he's returning to NYC to record a track he wrote with Roy August in Nashville. Once his website IS up and running, he's planning on sharing other "projects" as well...which includes uploading select sections of his books "Confessions" & "Vagabundo" (yep, he renamed Vagabond). He's also working on a rough draft of a Jamaican thriller entitled "Justice".

He's worked so hard! Go get 'em Orrin!

Orrin has uploaded 2 videos to YouTube that I know you'll enjoy. One is a "Behind The Scenes" chat and the other is the official "It Ain't About Love" video. Enjoy!

Message from Orrin

Hi folks,
I hope that your life has been manageable for you this past year.
I've been thinking a great deal about self perception and how it determines happiness.
When one becomes so fragmented, that you lose touch w/ yourself and each daily experience is a distorted jumble of seemingly unrelated, incoming information and all that is left to do, is react and go through a dreamlike process of motion until it's bedtime/dreamtime and then you wake the next day and the entire process begins again.
Well, guess where your subconscious speaks to you? Through your dreams, and if you're lucky, you may wake up w/ a clue about what's really bothering you and if you write it down, you may have a clue, to help create a roadmap for the immediate future.
Recently, I had a dream about a place and friends from my past and when I woke up, I still heard people speaking Dutch in my head. I'd been feeling really unfulfilled, unconnected and unhappy for some time. I knew that I was OK, but that my "sense of perception" needed to be readjusted.
You know friends, sometimes a "road trip" is just what one needs to gain a fresh perspective on this life.
I'm catching up right now from my own.  I've returned from a ten day, solo trip to Amsterdam, Holland.
I have some great stories and photo's to share about Amsterdam. I'm so glad, after all these years, that I continue to keep a voluminous log of my daily observations and experiences. I may publish segments of this man's view of the world very soon,
I had a great time on my birthday. My Dutch friend, PJ Scholten, brought a whole world of laughter, humanity and enjoyment to this trip. I also spent a day w/ PJ, her delightful, energetic, daughter Paula, and Paula's boyfriend Pascal. Pascal, was also a lot of fun, very knowledgeable and much appreciated. I hope they didn't mind coming to Amsterdam that day and I certainly hope they'll one day, be able to meet my son Oliver & my daughter Micah.
I spent a great deal of time, doing what I normally don't do on most trips, visiting Museums.
The Van Gogh exhibit at the Van Gogh Museum brought tears to my eyes! I was so intensely moved by the paintings. I took the 4. Euro, audio tour (the paintings are numbered and you push the button on your headset devise and the corresponding recording tells you about the artist, the painting & what he was doing during that time) It was too much, I felt silly being affected that deeply. I actually was wiping the tears from my eyes!! Every paint stroke, each selection of color. Postcards will never come close to portraying the incredible ability and extreme madness in the work of his later years.
I'm really glad that I had the opportunity to come back to Holland and re-assess my evaluation of Amsterdam (I have a new vision of how commercial it has become but how much I still love the city), the feeling of life & freedom, history, art, the streets & architecture, scooters & bicycles and so many different types of people, speaking their own languages and finding a way to get along.
PJ, I'm so very grateful to you for helping to making my stay a comfortable & safe one, and for taking the time to arrange things for me and spend time w/ me on my birthday. It would not have been the same w/ out your kind attention.
The return flight was a long one, (7 hours) and security was tight, but everything went well.
Now that I'm back, I'm following the "roadmap" that I'd scribbled into my daily log. The book is now full of notes, music, pasted symbols, personal reminders, funny stories, questions and observations.

Now that I've returned, I hope to be mixing new Reggae tracks and recording fresh vocals for my new songs, at Horizon Studios in New Haven & at my brother's studio in Westport, before the end of September.
Well, I'm back and everything is still the same here.. but ME !!
Of course, that just may be my personal perception.
Look forward to seeing you all soon.
Love,
Orrin

(Updated 1/13/05)

Ø While in Amsterdam, Orrin performed at the Milkey Way, was interviewed by High Times Magazine, performed for and was interviewed by Swedish TV, and also managed to squeeze in time to do a Dutch photo shoot for his new CD, The Promise.

As we all know, Orrin has many talents. He often receives requests from educational institutions to be a guest lecturer…speaking about the music industry…after all, at one time, he was Michael's manager and had in fact obtained and negotiated Michael's first major record deal in 1974 (on RCA Records on behalf of Michael and Orrin’s company Complex One). Upon his recent return from Europe, he was asked by the head of the Geography department of a University in New Haven, CT to address a class based on his personal experiences and observations of the cultural characteristics and differences between the inhabitants of Afghanistan, Europe, and the USA. So, Orrin put on his “lecturing hat” once again, speaking and fielding questions at Southern Connecticut State College. The topic was Ideas, Fact and Fiction, American Perspective Versus World Perception. It was a packed house…with both students and faculty remarking on the breadth and depth of the content and Orrin’s unique and engaging speaking style. He brought a large, black canvas bag filled with “conversation pieces.” The entire class waited in eager anticipation as each item was, one by one, taken from the mysterious black bag (an Afghani prayer rug with ornate scenes of warfare woven into the design created during the “cold war” period of the Russian invasion, and the occupation of Afghanistan, etc.). Well done, Orrin!

Stay tuned!! We hope to have more info and photos for you in the near future.

Orrin Bolton on the move again

Roxbury singer-songwriter will preview songs tonight in West Haven

It sounds as if wanderlust is about to get the better of Orrin Bolton once again.

During the early ‘70s, the singer-songwriter was compelled to explore such exotic but unstable cities as Kabul, Afghanistan, and Bombay, India. Now Bolton may be tempted to leave the comfort of Roxbury for a more stimulating scene. "Roxbury is a great place to raise a family or retire," Bolton said while calling from Westport. "It’s the Norman Rockwell experience. It’s a great place to write books. When I needed to get away from the intensity, Roxbury was the place for me. Now I need to get in the thick of it again. I need to be at the crossroads. I need to be where the hungry, creative artists are who need to strut their stuff. I don’t know where I’ll go but I’ll have my passport in hand."

While living in Roxbury during the ‘90s, Bolton who has written two books, "Confessions of a Soda Jerk," and "Brother to Brother," decided to live in Jamaica with his wife and two children three months out of each year.

The plug on that odyssey was pulled after near tragedy in 1999. "Some people tried to murder us there and that wasn’t a shock," Bolton said. "The music is so pure there but Jamaica is such a wicked place."

Don’t be surprised to find Bolton, 53, who is working on a new album, in the Netherlands, where he has a strong fan base. "I love it there since they can care less about celebrity," Bolton said. "With the people there it’s all about the music. They don’t care about Hollywood. They can care less who your brother happens to be."

It’s virtually impossible not to figure out that Bolton’s younger sibling is a very successful singer named Michael. O.B. (the Original Bolton, Older Brother) bears strong resemblance to his two-time Grammy winning brother, who has sold more than 52 million albums. "I’ve been mistaken for him but what can you do?" Bolton said. "I tell people I’m his brother and they say, ‘I didn’t know you had a brother.’ It’s weird. Michael and I fool around as brothers (in the studio) but we’re in totally different circles."

"I remember the first time I met Oprah (Winfrey). It was like meeting this superior, telepathic creature. Her whole staff is like that. Michael and his people are the same way. I’m different. I’m paying the price for it."

It’s not hard to track Orrin Bolton. The sensitive, soft-spoken bard isn’t protected by waves of security. "I’m the accessible Bolton. I’ve had to deal with stalkers, the fanatics. I’ve had to deal with death threats. You might not be able to get near my brother but you can get near me."

The Bolton brothers have some obvious physical similarities but when it comes to music, the line is clearly drawn. Michael Bolton will be forever connected with adult contemporary music. However, his older brother is eclectic. O.B. is partial to pop, rock and reggae. "I love those styles of music," Bolton said. "But there is something about reggae, which moves me particularly."

Bolton’s forthcoming album, tentatively titled, ‘The Promise,’ should be out within a year. "It’s deeply heartfelt material," Bolton said. "It’s a very easy listen. I’ll see how it goes over in Europe, which is where my strength happens to be."

"..........The new stuff is truly varied. You have the pop songs, some rockers, the reggae groove and I even wrote a country song. I didn’t try to write it that way. That’s just the way it came out. There’s something for everybody with this album."

PRESS RELEASE!!!

May 27, 2003

G.M.K. Management  860-350-6306                              Concert Promoters  203-439-0829

 Litchfield, Connecticut                                                     Cheshire, Connecticut

".............Orrin Bolton is returning to Connecticut to showcase the new material he has written and is currently recording for his upcoming CD, "THE PROMISE" on Rock'n Hood Records.

........Orrin Bolton, is without a doubt, an artist that is deserving of the increasingly wider appeal and acceptance of new fans, bringing him to the attention of many other listeners, previously unaware of his truly unique and at the same time comfortably familiar, performance and vocal prowess. And while it is true that the last name is Bolton, there are always many more "live" musical and anecdotal moments waiting to be heard and enjoyed that will surprise even the casual listener.

The fact that the United States is becoming increasingly culturally diverse is not unrelated to the music of Orrin Bolton. Here is a man who spent a lifetime living in exotic world locals, where his name was not as important as his own musical tales of "lessons learned," "bridges burned" "dues to pay," faith, love and life's adventure's revealed. From each geographic location, Orrin has assimilated the flavor and essence of life, as interpreted by he and his talented crew of players.  Countries and places reflected include songs drawn from America's heartland as well as South America, Jamaica, and points east of Istanbul. The Jamaican influence is especially prominent in some of Orrin's music and acceptance of his music by the reggae community is evidenced by European concerts that have included Rita Marley, wife of Bob Marley.and other notable  reggae artists featured on both O.B.'s CD's. His "old school" R&B, "rock steady," rock songs,  pop tunes and ballads reflect a heartfelt understanding, of music as the message.

The music of Orrin Bolton must be heard and experienced "live" to see how a true talent from an obviously, special background brings all of these elements into a style that is truly his own.

Many often may wonder if Orrin was involved with the career of his brother. In fact, Orrin was quite involved in Michael's career early on, securing Michael's first major recording contract with RCA Records, in addition to later, heading Orro Corp. which served as Leber & Krebs Management's, "fifth column." This successful activity spearheaded the creation of Michael Bolton's massive, proactive national fan base that continues to support the many worthy causes that have grown, blossomed and flowered under Michael's leadership. Orrin has made numerous appearances alone and with his brother in this spirit. Orrin is also an extremely active fundraiser and continues to remain steadfast in his commitment to controversial American issues and causes.

While Orrin is mixing the latest original contributions to his new CD "THE PROMISE," at Wager Studios of Connecticut, fans, friends and music lovers will be treated to much of the new material, as "Any time," "In Me, "This Gold Band", "Moon is Full" and other new songs will be part of Orrin's repertoire........."
